The nine-tailed fox is a mythical fox originating from Chinese mythology, a common motif in East Asian mythology, and the most famous fox spirit in Chinese culture. In Chinese and East Asian folklore, foxes are depicted as spirits possessed of magic powers. These foxes are often described as misbehaving, with the ability to disguise themselves as beautiful women. The Nine-Tailed Fox is a legendary demoness known in Indian, Korean, Chinese, Thai, Vietnam, and Japanese spiritual cosmology, where it is depicted as a powerful entity.
The fox spirit is an incredibly prolific shapeshifter, known variously as the (Fox Spirit) and (Nine-Tailed Fox) in China. It is a creature species sent by the heavens that is usually described as having the voice of a human infant and is a sign of prosperity, peace, and luck. Although the specifics of the tales vary, these fox spirits can usually shapeshift, often taking the form of beautiful young women who attempt to seduce men, whether for mere mischief or to consume their bodies or souls.
