From Haunted Cemetery to Sacred Sanctuary: The Story of Phor Than Tud.
Phor Than Tud Janthawanso (often referred to as Luang Phor Tud or Phor Than Tut) is a respected Buddhist monk from southern Thailand, deeply associated with the Han Khok Chang Monastic Residence (also spelled Harn Khok Chang or Wat Han Kok Chang) located in the Rataphum District of Songkhla Province.
The Han Khok Chang Monastic Residence originally started as an old, deeply isolated cemetery belonging to Ban Khok Chang village in Kamphaeng Phet Subdistrict, Rataphum District. Locals historically regarded the area as haunted, and it was said that no one dared to enter or even pass by after dark due to its eerie reputation.
Arrival of Phor Than Tud: Around B.E. 2540 (1997), Phor Than Tud Janthawanso—who was previously residing at Wat Charoen Phupha (Chum Pa)—traveled to this desolate cemetery to practice solitary vipassana meditation and ascetic disciplines. Recognizing the spiritual need and potential of the grounds, he began developing the location into a proper monastic residence for meditation and community worship.
Phor Than Tud is well-known for creating powerful sacred amulets, including revered images of Luang Phor Tuad (such as classic "Lang Taoreed" metal casts and sacred herbal Nur Wahn powder amulets) as well as ritual items like Phan Boon. His amulets—such as the Phichit Chai and Na Na Thong editions—are highly sought after by collectors and devotees for protection against dangers, accidents, and life's obstacles.
Beyond protective amulets, Phor Than Tud has gained local fame for being invited by struggling business owners to perform opening blessings and spiritual rituals (Biak Rarn) for shops. Devotees widely believe that his blessings, coupled with his handwritten holy cloth (Yantra) talismans placed at storefronts, have helped turn failing businesses into thriving commercial enterprises.
Phor Than Tud of Han Khok Chang Monastic Residence created this sacred Luang Phor Tuad amulet, continuing a powerful tradition. Widely regarded as an Arahant and affectionately known as the "God of Vehicles," Luang Phor Tuad is among the most revered guru monks in history. Because his amulets are believed to have saved countless lives from accidents, battles, and peril, statues and amulets of Luang Phor Tuad are a staple in nearly every Thai home and vehicle, trusted to protect believers from fatal harm.
